WEEK:
AUGUST 1ST WEEK. |

4th
Annual East Cape Bisbee was hosted by our resort this past
week and it seems that everything went quite well, everyone
was very happy and relax (even thought there is plenty of
money involved). And we are happy to announce that we will be
having it again next year.
The
welcome cocktail and captain meeting was held on garden and
pool area. The kiosk was used as the sign in area. Mr. Wayne
Bisbee and Mr. Cliserio Mercado did a great job going over the
rules and clarifying each one. There were almost 200 people
and Tecate beer step up to the challenge as it sponsored the
event with plenty of free beer. Another great friend and
sponsor was Ken Matney and wife from Hi-5 Lures who sponsor
quite a few lures for the raffle. Angel was on site and
with plenty of work as he was getting everyone ready for the
next day, it took a day or two for the participants to know
about ordering everything a night before, but by the third day
everyone knew what to do. |
      |
|
We
started out very early serving breakfast every mornings a
little earlier than normal to be ready for the 7:00 am shut
gun start. On the first day, my dad with Wayne, Radio
controller Mr. Rico and Lic. Bermudez from the State
government were in charge of the shut gun start. There were 42
boats signed on to the event, so it was a very interesting
start. There were nice 60 ft long fishing boats, quite fast
also as we saw a nice Ocean yacht doing about 35 miles, easily
going past everyone. It was so nice to see so many people
coming from so many different places, here Mr. Pascoe from
Wyoming with the team uniform.
The
weight station was arranged next to the new fish hanging
place, and of course we had the Tecate huts for shade by the
beach. And they were needed as we had a lot of people coming
to check on the event, and the sun was petty strong for the
first two days, the third big clouds cover most of the beach
and we felt some drops of rain. |

Winners Team Kw's Karma,
Robert Manroe and son Kyle with friend Mr. Arenas. They all
fish with long time local captain Daniel Alvarez, who know
fishes out of Cabo. They were the winners with a nice 386 lbs
Blue marlin, which was worth $140,204.48 They laneded the fish
on the second day about 11 o'clock in the morning and once on
board they stated heading back to the resort. They were
fishing the Gordo Banks and it was hook about 1 hour after
arriving, they fought it for about 2 hours. Son Kyle was last
year winner for the dorado category, but this year, dad show
everyone how to win a tournament. |
Tony Talamantes, Francisco
Munsoia, Pepe Heuia y Tony Talamantes Jr. on the Borracho with
Captain Oscar Verdugo were in about 15 minutes before closing
the scale on the last day, and they almost didn't make on time
and on weight of the fish, as it came to scale at 304 lbs,
good enough to take second place and $27,303.52 Oscar another
great local captain, and son to a very prolific fishing
family. It was nice to see that one of the teams was a local
team from La Paz. |

|
Jonathan King of only 16
year old was the winner for the dorado category with a nice
bull of 44.9 lb. He and his family was fishing on el Tio,
another local captain and now boat as well. They took $7056.00
Plenty for next year Bisbee. |
Mr. Rick Shedore, Richard
Richardson and Bob Brack fishing on the On-site with local
captain Enrique Yepiz caught this enormous cow that weighted
in 197.7 lbs. to take home $7056.00 |
 |
|
A very
nice crowd every day, but specially the last day, as the blue
was announced about 30 minutes before closing time and it was
reported to be over the 300 lbs, it made it in with only 15
minutes left in the official time. |

Award
ceremony was held on the beach, a little more people that what
Arnulfo had planned for, but were happy to work harder and
served everyone. It was a nice beautiful evening and we had
great comments from all of our friends.
We would
like to thank the Bisbee Family, Patricia, Bob and Wayne and
the Bisbee organization with Mr. Cliserio Mercado for giving
us the opportunity to serve you, we are very happy that you
decided to work with us this year and we are sure that we will
do a better job for you next year.
Thank you again
and
See you next year!!!

Water
Temperature: Nice
water in the mid 80's.
Weather
Temperature:
Nice with some shower during mid to the end of the week.
Still it was nice week over all.
Fishing Spots and Distance: Our
boats were going mostly down by La Rivera to Cabo Pulmo most of
the action was relatively close. But since most of the boats
from the tournament were here this past week, they went
everywhere. Normal 20-35 miles, but tournament boats were from 10
to 60 miles.
Off-shore fishing.-
Main target this
week was big marlin, and we came through with 72 billfish,
it is very nice that the Bisbee's guys put a limit to the
qualifying fish as they only brought in 5 of billfish. I
don't know if I should put the dorado here in the
off-shore, since we were very close to the light house
fishing for them
In-shore fishing.-
Mostly rooster fish, our friend Mr. Grüeng
with his son were fishing inshore for roosters they did ok.
Mr. Ronnie Kovach and Steve Carson were with us this past
week, and they caught about 21 different species for their
TV show. They also had great surprises when they were
fishing for snappers right in front of La Rivera and
Ronnie hooked a stripers. You know one of those things.
Successful
lures:
Petrolero, and a
golden color lure won second place.
Bait
Used: Mostly
mackerel, caballito and sardine, but we fished for skip
jacks and tunas to fish for the big fish.
Highlight of
the Week: Over
$140,000.00 blue marlin, how about that for high light.
Also the 197.7 lbs tuna that took the Tuna category. It
was really big.
